About the project

This project initially bore the title ‘One Day as a Refugee’ when it was begun in autumn 2015 as a short-term project.
The encounters in the refugee home in Guben on the German-Polish border and in the temporary accommodation in Lietzen on the edge of the Od-erbruch were intense from the very beginning – both for photographer Lorenz Kienzle and the refugees. A single day gradually became a whole year and resulted in this ambitious long-term project.

Kienzle was joined by young Syrian filmmaker Omar Akahare, who ac-companied the analog photographer with his film camera. Using the media of photography and film, both artists decided to explore the development of the individuals’ daily lives in Guben and Lietzen.
