She threw herself back and braced her feet against the front seat, but the cushions were damp and cold...Something seemed to press harder and harder on her temples, and she felt sick at heart and nauseated by the wretched breath of poverty all about her. At length she let down the window and enjoyed the fresh breeze blowing in. And she enjoyed the awakening life of the city...
